Kyla’s Journey to 354K Followers on TikTok

I talked with a seasoned blogger Kyla Herbes with more than 354K TikTok followers. During our conversation, she mentioned the impacts of social media on SEO.

01:35 Introduction of Kyla Herbes.

02:42 Kyla’s journey in the Blogging World.

03:44 Some of her clients include Weightwatchers, Mercedes, and Virgin Airlines.

05:50 How she quit her full-time job in the city.

07:05 Kyla was launching her business as a small media company agency.

09:30 What was her journey like in reaching 351K followers on Tik Tok.

14:10 When the pandemic hid, Tik Tok was the only new platform growing in contrast to other highly saturated platforms like Facebook and Instagram.

14:44 Being featured as the winner of the “Designer for One Room Challenge” in Tik Tok helped her get 50K followers instantly, and she had the only home décor account at that time.

16:00 Tik Tok had reached Kyla and invited her to be one of the first accounts in “Creative Learning Partnerships.” They were transforming the Tik Tok platform from dancing and lip-syncing to “teaching moments.” They wanted her to create 40 videos in 60 days. She had a challenging task, but Kyla enjoyed experimenting with what works and discovering ways to use the new platform objectives.

20:00 Every platform has its character. Facebook is for showing off or complaining; Twitter is for news and politics. While Instagram is for showing beauty, Tik Tok offers to make something beautiful in an easy way.

22:27 Her video formula for “Teaching Moments” got her another 200K followers with 3 million views.

24:40 Kyla was explaining how she gained 200K Pinterest Followers.

28:00 Why Kyla passed the offer from Pinterest for a full-time position.

29:50 Pinterest was changing its policy: No more links on the platform.

35:00 Kyla’s formula in creating content on each platform.

35:30 Kyla finds Trello a big-time saver for her projects.

37:35 How long does it take to create content?

First, she selects the subject, then thinks about different topics in that subject matter and outlines each topic. Finally, she picks one topic which feels interesting. After writing the blog, she shot the video.

41:10 What do you think about the impact of social media on SEO?

42:00 Instagram is its image search engine. On ING, it’s not all about the number of followers but the engagement with your followers. Recently, it’s critical to use keywords that describe your business, your product/offer, or the customer pain points. Using those keywords in our profile description, title, URL, and account name has significantly impacted your searchability. She recommends finding different ways to forward your users from your Instagram profile to another point of contact by using the WP Bio-Link plugin. This plugin will be nested under your domain name and help users reach your website, sales funnel, LinkedIn profile, or other social media accounts. 45:15 Kyla has been experimenting with YouTube Shorts lately.

48:03 Kyla is also one of the moderators at SEO Fundamentals Room in Club House. Every event date, she books her time to share and learn. That way, she also takes care of her blog’s SEO to-do list. Kyla explores new ideas and new marketing approaches. When she started listening to the SEO Fundamentals Room, she asked questions to improve her blog’s SEO. Joshua Monge, another moderator in the room, offered her an audit. Since then, she has been taking care of the SEO issues. She fixed problems in H1, H2 tags, repurposed her content, worked on the broken links, focused on image optimization, and internally linked related web pages. She is more than happy to receive feedback from Rob Bertholf, Joshua Monge, Karin Tierney, and Firuze Gokce, along with other experts in the room. She says this ClubHouse room has changed her trajectory.
